Is a 46 mm watch too big?
Short answer
For most men, no. A 46 mm watch fits naturally on wrists of about 6.75 in (17 cm) and up. On smaller wrists it reads as an oversized statement piece. Lug-to-lug length matters more than case width.
How to measure your wrist
Wrap a strip of paper or a soft tape measure around your wrist just above the wrist bone, where you'd wear a watch. Mark where it overlaps and measure the length. That's your wrist circumference.
How a 46 mm watch wears, by wrist size
| Wrist circumference | How a 46 mm watch usually wears |
|---|---|
| Under 6.25 in (16 cm) | Oversized; reads as a deliberate statement piece |
| 6.25–6.75 in (16–17 cm) | Large but wearable, especially on the leather strap |
| 6.75–7.5 in (17–19 cm) | A natural fit for a 46 mm case |
| Over 7.5 in (19 cm) | Balanced; smaller watches can look undersized on you |
General guidance. Lug-to-lug length, case thickness and strap all change how a watch wears.
Why case width isn't the whole story
Lug-to-lug length matters more than width. It's the distance from the top strap attachment to the bottom one. If the lugs overhang the edges of your wrist, the watch looks too big no matter its width. Hexagonal and integrated-lug cases often wear more compactly than round watches of the same width, because the strap leaves the case close to the body.
The Hexagon Storm is 46 mm wide and 7 mm thick. Its bracelet and strap leave the case close to the body, so it wears smaller than a round 46 mm watch with long lugs.
Bracelet or leather for a smaller wrist?
A leather strap makes a large watch look slightly smaller and lighter. A steel bracelet adds visual weight. On wrists under 6.75 in, the leather versions are the safer choice.
Can I resize the bracelet?
Yes. Links can be removed to fit the wrist, using a link-removal tool or at any watch shop in a few minutes.
